A recent study done, called EAGeR, focused on the use of aspirin as an additional supplement to other infertility medications. Aspirin was purported to have few of any maternal side effects, and could impact conception, implantation, and improve low birth weight, and even the prevalence of male offspring. The hypothesis is that better blood flow at the time of conception, and during implantation, will lead to improved success rates for live births.
Infertility Drugs, Aspirin, and Success Rates
EAGeR tracked over a thousand women through at least six cycles while they were taking fertility medications as well as the aspirin. Each woman had suffered from infertility, or miscarriages, and were between the ages of 18-48. Each woman was randomly assigned to a group and were given 81 mg of aspirin to take daily, along with folic acid. The other group, control group, was given a placebo. Fertility monitors were utilized to assist with timing of intercourse, and daily urine samples were collected to monitor hormone levels.
At the end of the study the results were clear: something as simple as a low dosage of aspirin can assist and enhance the other infertility medications being used. Moreover, it was determined that those who had experienced a single pregnancy loss event, the aspirin assisted in conception in 100% of the women. Those women who had experienced multiple miscarriages, however, had lowered rates of success, but were still impacted slightly. Researchers were also surprised to learn that the aspirin conceptions that took place had a higher percentage of male embryos that implanted, and cited the aspirin’s reduction of inflammation as a contributing factor.
Aspirin: The Ultimate Discount Fertility Medication
Reproductive specialist are guardedly optimistic about the addition of aspirin to a conception regiment, but urge women to continue taking their fertility medications as recommended. For those women who have opted for IVF, and IVF drugs, it offers one more tool to assist with implantation success.
Current Recommendations for the Use of Fertility Medications
Aspirin will certainly not harm a woman as long as she is not allergic to them, and may contribute to the overall success of the IVF procedure, or ARC therapy. For those who are always searching for discount fertility meds, aspirin is among some of the cheapest medications on the market in the US, today. This study would suggest that more fertility meds for sale should also include aspirin as part of the overall offerings.
