The latest statistics in the US state that Endometriosis affects every 1 in 10 females in the US, is most often noticeable in women between the ages of 12-60, and very often is the underlying cause for infertility. Scientific advances have emerged over the years to offer an improved understanding of this condition, and modern medicine has a wide array of fertility medications, as well as infertility treatments, that can offer treatment options for women with endometriosis who would like to also one day have children.
Treating Endometriosis and Infertility with Medications
Receiving a diagnosis of Endometriosis doesn’t mean a woman will not be able to have children. In fact, much is now known about the condition allowing women to optimize their health, their fertility, and to take action when the reason for their infertility is known.
Fertility medications, such as Ganirelix Acetate, Synarel Nasal Spray, Decapeptyl, Lupron, Gynorest, Medrol, Endometrin, and others have been developed to directly address the problem of Endometriosis, and to lessen the pain, inflammation, and to return the uterine lining to a state that is more conducive to conception and carrying an embryo to full term.
Endometriosis 101 and Infertility
For some reason, and researchers are not exactly sure why, sometimes tissue growth that resembles the uterine lining will occur in places outside of the uterus, causing infertility and Endometriosis. The ovaries develop cysts (called endometriomas). In either case, these growths can cause scarring that impact the ovaries or block the Fallopian tubes, preventing pregnancy. Traditionally, endometriosis is verified by using a laparoscopic procedure.
Once the doctor has verified the diagnosis of your infertility, due to Endometriosis, there are a wide range of options. Most of the prescribed medications are intended to reduce the prevalence of the tissue growth outside of the uterus. There are also surgeries which can remove the additional tissue. The fertility medications that are often administered, work in a couple of ways. They inhibit additional growth, while encouraging and offering pharmaceutical support for the actual lining of the uterus.
In many instances, a woman’s uterus or ovaries have been significantly impacted by the Endometriosis, and the fertility medications are geared not only toward uterine health and stability, but also is geared toward creating an environment so that a woman’s ovaries can return to normal function. Sometimes a woman’s ovaries have been so impacted that they need to be stimulated into action. The fertility medications used can also encourage the ovaries to produce multiple eggs so that the doctors can select the best egg for use in IVF (Invitro fertilization) treatments.
IVF Medications, Endometriosis, and Pregnancy
Many women with endometriosis opt to use IVF drugs, and procedures in order to become, and stay, pregnant. These IVF meds offer a woman the option of still having a live birth, of starting a family of their own, and of easing the symptoms of Endometriosis. Pregnancy, and the IVF medications are not a cure for Endometriosis, it should be noted. However, the use of IVF medications can increase the odds that a woman will be able to become pregnant, stay pregnant, and start a family.
