IVF is a big decision because it impacts every aspect of your life. It affects your body, mind and not to mention your wallet. When you are considering the IVF process know that it is a life-changing decision that isn’t for everyone and can be a challenging experience not only for but for your partner as well. The only thing you can really do is prepare yourself and your partner as best as you can for what is next.
Today on the blog, we are going to share four ways that you know if you are ready for IVF.
1. Get Your Finances In Order By Saving
Getting the IVF procedure is not a cheap procedure and is often not covered by health insurance. Save as much money as you can. Create a GoFundMe page to ask family and friends for funds to help your family goal become a reality. Many fertility centers will allow you to start a payment plan, but we still advise for you to save as much as possible. IVF procedures can cost around twenty thousand dollars, so it is a lot to sacrifice. Therefore – save, save, and save. This may seem like a lot of money because it is a hefty amount, but it will be worth it in the end when the procedure goes well.
2. Mentally Prepare Yourself to Positive Thinking
You need to be mentally strong and positive. We say this because IVF procedure results don’t always go as planned. It can be easy for you to get discouraged and disappointed that things didn’t go as you expected. You may react in different ways and it is okay to feel what you feel. You have endured many medications, shots, and giving blood, etc. You have to be okay to handle the unexpected. Work on being positive, hopeful, and believe in miracles. If it becomes too much it is okay to take a break from the IVF process or go talk with a counselor.
3. Physically Prepare Yourself for the IVF Procedure
Throughout the IVF procedure, you will experience a lot of physical changes and you have to be ready for what you are going to endure. You will get everything from shots, getting eggs extracted, embryo implantation, and it is guaranteed that your body will go through physical changes. Sometimes, you will be surprised that your body just did that. Embrace the changes that your body went through and appreciate your body.
4. Emotionally Prepare Yourself for the Emotional Rollercoaster
With all the hormones and what your body is experiencing – you will get emotional. You will experience all the ups and downs of emotions and it is okay. Cope with those feelings as best as you can. Rely on your partner, your support system and your counselor (if you have one). You can get through it all with the right support.
