When you have your in vitro fertilization IVF procedure performed there is a stressful time frame afterwards referred to as “the two week wait,” or on many blogs “TWW”. This is the time that you must wait after the procedure before you take a pregnancy test to determine if the procedure has worked and you have become pregnant.
For the women that undergo IVF and have to wait out this relatively short period of time, it can seem like forever. The best thing to keep in mind is to try to relax. As we discussed in an earlier article stress can be the number one enemy to you and your pregnancy. Stress can cause your body to reject the procedure and pregnancy will not occur.
While you are waiting out your two week wait try to eat healthy, proper nutrition is essential. Be sure to take your prescribed medications on time, every time. Take a break from anything that can be strenuous, do not exert yourself. Be sure to get plenty of rest, refrain from sexual activity, and be patient. This will give your body the optimum chance for success.
More IVF Two Week Wait tips may include:
· Do not do a pregnancy test too early afterwards an IVF
You need to wait the full 14 days after a transfer, or 12 days after a 5 day transfer as the HGC in your body can lead to false positives. This is the number one reason for false positive s in testing after the two week wait. This is especially true when using your own eggs. The best thing to do is not to stress during this time, we have an article about making your mind fertility friendly here.
· Embrace twinges and cramps after IVF
It may sound odd, but since your uterus is in overdrive any twinges or cramps could be a telling sign. Embrace them and think positive! There can be some serious baby making going on in there!
· Do not take any fertility supplements during IVF
Stick to basic vitamins and what your doctor recommends; do not take any supplements as they can have a reverse effect on conception. Even make the IVF medications ineffective, we explain that in our article here. Have a fertility friendly diet and choose well balanced options for the needed boost in energy.
